Compensation is an important question and we strive to be as transparent as possible. Hourly rates vary by market. Below we break down payment by market, and how to calculate what your average earning per hour may be.
Three components make up your average earnings:
- Parent Billing Rates
- Chime Service Fee
Parent Billing Rates
We set parent billing rates in each city based on the average hourly rate by non-Chime sitters in the market.
|City||Parent Hourly Rate for 1 child||Charge for additional children|
|Boston||Sitters set their own rate in Boston.
The default rate is $16.00
|$1 / child|
|Chicago||$14.00||$1 / child|
| New York &
|Sitters set their own rate in NYC & NJ.
The default rate is $18.00
|$1 / child|
|Washington DC||$15.00||$1 / child|
A nice bonus of being a Chime sitter is RoundUp. Parents new to babysitting are often unsure if they should tip or leave anything extra for the sitter. RoundUp helps solve this by suggesting a standard “little bit extra” for the sitter, about 15%, and including it by default. While parents have the option to adjust the RoundUp to any amount, many of them leave it as-is.
Chime Service Fee
We seek to keep things very simple and rewarding for sitters, which is why we only charge a 10% service fee on each booking. This does not apply to the RoundUp, as you receive 100% of any RoundUp amount left by families.
To help illustrate how payments work, let’s use an example of a 4 hour sitting in Chicago for 2 children.
|(4 hours @ $15/hr)|
|Chime Service Fee||- $6|
|Round Up||+ $10|
|Total Sitter Receives||$64|
|Average Hourly Rate||$16/hr|
